The webinar "EVERYDAY PEACE AND COMMUNICATION" features Roger McInty, Professor in the School of Government and International Relations at Durham University and Director of the Durham Global Security Institute. Mr McInty discusses the concept of everyday peace and its potential for peaceful transformation.
• Everyday Peace and Communication
Everyday peace refers to small acts that build connections and communication among members of adversarial communities in deeply divided societies that may suffer from cleavages of different kinds. In Roger Mac Ginty’s words, these “small acts of everyday peace can create space for civility, reciprocity, solidarity, and possibly more expansive concepts such as reconciliation."
• Elements of Everyday Peace
McInty emphasises sociaility, reciprocity and solidarity as three important elements of everyday peace. He states that these elements help individuals and communities to live in peace with each other.
• Measuring Everyday Peace
McInty mentions a project called "everydaypeaceindicators.org" and gives information on how everyday peace can be measured. This project tries to identify and measure indicators of everyday peace in various countries.
