Presentation DescriptionIn the presentation, Assistant Professor Dr Beytül Mamadov's PhD thesis on the effectiveness of a new design umbilical cord clamp is presented. The presentation is organised by Near East University and the participants are invited to listen to the presentation.
• Definition of the Problem and Aim of the Research
The speaker states that the current umbilical cord clamps have some practical problems and that they have developed a new design to overcome these problems. The aim of the research is to experimentally prove whether the newly designed clamp is as effective as the existing designs.
• Methods and Materials
The researchers surveyed 150 mothers and their newborn babies to collect opinions about existing clamps. In addition, the effectiveness of the newly designed clamps is tested by performing pressure tests on umbilical cord pieces that are not used as medical waste. In this process, various clamp models are produced using 3D printer technology.
• Design and Experiments
The speaker explains that there are many different models of the newly designed clamps and these models are tested with pilot studies. It is also stated that tests were carried out on 436 pieces of cord to determine the most effective clamp model according to the results of the experiments.
• Conclusion and Evaluation
During the presentation, the development process of the new design umbilical cord clamp and the difficulties encountered in this process are described. The speaker states that the findings show that the new design is as effective as existing clamps. It is emphasised that these findings can make the use of umbilical cord clamps safer and more practical for healthcare professionals and families.
Outcomes
1. Understanding Research and Innovation: This presentation shows students how to conduct research to find a solution to a problem and how to develop innovative approaches in the process. Developing a new design to solve problems in umbilical cord clamp design is an example of this.
2. Technical Knowledge and Skills: Participants can learn about specific technical topics such as umbilical cord clamp design, prototyping with 3D printers and pressure testing.
3. Problem Solving Skills: The presentation provides guidance in defining a problem, evaluating various solutions and selecting the most appropriate solution.
4. Communication Skills: The presentation provides skills in making presentations and expressing research results effectively. The presentation shows how to share the results of a research project.
5. Critical Thinking and Analysis: Participants can gain experience in analysing the current situation, recognising existing problems and using critical thinking skills to solve these problems.
